1899 Western Association
A fanned six team flop. Cutting Burlington and faraway St. Joseph from the eight team league were good ideas. So was moving the
supposed stalwart franchises at Dubuque and Peoria east to Rockford and Bloomington. Yet it all didn't work.
Last place Quincy relocated to Dubuque May 19th, but the league gave up hope, June 17th. Cedar Rapids great record with two ringers
borrowed from Kansas City was the reason for their lead: Meredith and spitball inventor Elmer Stricklett.
